These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Nuvela AI LLC ("Nuvela AI," "we," "us" or "our") governing your access to and use of the Nuvela AI application at nuvela.app and any related services (collectively, the "Service").
By accessing or using the Service, creating an account or clicking "I agree," you confirm that you are at least 18 years of age, have read and understood these Terms and agree to be bound by them.
If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
Nuvela AI is an AI-powered educational application that helps users understand their healthcare documents — including visit summaries, lab results, medication information and discharge papers — by translating complex medical language into plain English.
The Service is designed for personal, non-commercial use by patients, caregivers and families. It is intended to complement — not replace — the relationship between you and your healthcare providers.
Features available depend on your subscription plan. We reserve the right to modify, suspend or discontinue any feature at any time with reasonable notice.
Nuvela AI is strictly an educational tool. Everything generated by the Service — including care guides, medication explanations, red flags, checklists and summaries — is for informational and educational purposes only.
The Service does not:
You acknowledge that AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions or inaccuracies. You should always verify important health information with your licensed healthcare provider before making any health decisions.
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately. Do not use Nuvela AI in an emergency.

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your account at any time for violation of these Terms or for any reason we deem appropriate.
Nuvela AI offers a free plan with limited uploads and paid subscription plans (Plus, Family and Premium) with expanded features. Plan details and pricing are available at nuvela.app/pricing.
Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel. All payments are processed securely by Stripe.
We may offer a free trial period for paid plans. Your subscription will automatically convert to a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel before the trial ends.
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings or by contacting us. Cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period. You will retain access to paid features until the end of the period you have paid for.
Subscription fees are generally non-refundable. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us at support@nuvela.app within 14 days of the charge and we will review your request.
One-time upload pack purchases are non-refundable once any uploads from the pack have been used. Unused upload packs do not expire.
We reserve the right to change our pricing with 30 days notice. Price changes will not affect your current billing period.
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:
You retain all ownership rights to the documents and content you upload to Nuvela AI. By uploading content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.

Family and Premium plan subscribers may grant caregiver access to designated individuals. By inviting a caregiver, you:

The Nuvela AI application, including its design, features, code, branding, logo and content (excluding your uploaded documents), is owned by Nuvela AI LLC and protected by copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws.
The care guides generated by the Service are provided to you for your personal use. You may share care guides with family members, caregivers and healthcare providers for personal health management purposes. You may not reproduce, distribute or sell care guides for commercial purposes.
"Nuvela AI" and the Nuvela AI logo are trademarks of Nuvela AI LLC. You may not use our trademarks without our prior written consent.
The Service integrates with third-party providers including Anthropic (AI processing), Supabase (database), Stripe (payments) and Vercel (hosting). Your use of the Service is also subject to the terms and privacy policies of these providers.
We are not responsible for the practices of third-party services. We select providers carefully and require them to handle your data in accordance with applicable law.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT OR ACCURACY.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of viruses. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any information provided through the Service.
AI-generated content may contain errors. You should always verify health information with your healthcare provider.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, NUVELA AI LLC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, HEALTH OUTCOMES OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR $100, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless Nuvela AI LLC and its officers, directors, employees and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms or your violation of any rights of a third party.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, without regard to its conflict of law principles. You agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of the courts located in Greenville County, South Carolina for any disputes arising under these Terms.
Before filing any legal claim, you agree to first contact us at support@nuvela.app to attempt to resolve the dispute informally. We will try to resolve the issue within 30 days.
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and may cancel your account.
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms, non-payment or for any reason we deem appropriate. We will provide reasonable notice where possible.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections 3, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13 and 14 of these Terms survive termination.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Nuvela AI regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not be considered a waiver of those rights.
You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms without restriction.
